About the Founder
A proud native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Byron made Durham, North Carolina his home in July 1996 in search of new opportunity. What he discovered was far more than a destination — he found a city that mirrored his own grit, resilience, and purpose.
Over the decades, Byron’s connection to Durham has deepened through lived experience, personal investment, and a genuine love for its people. Having resided in nearly every part of the city, he brings an intimate, street-level understanding of Durham’s past and present — from the echo of jazz in the Hayti District to the entrepreneurial brilliance of Black Wall Street.
Byron founded Carolina Legacy Tours with one clear mission: to honor the voices and landmarks that shaped Durham’s soul. His passion for storytelling, cultural preservation, and uplifting local Black-owned businesses infuses every tour with meaning and heart. Through his work, Byron invites both visitors and lifelong residents to experience the city’s history not as distant memory — but as living legacy.
Durham didn’t just become his home. It became his purpose.
